Chip’s career began guiding anglers on legendary waters including Lake of the Woods, Kabetogama and Leech Lake. In the mid-1990s, he founded the Leech Lake Guide Coalition and his annual tournament, the Leech Lake Evinrude Walleye Classic. From humble beginnings, the event evolved into one of the Midwest’s largest walleye tournaments with 250 teams. In 2007, Chip received Minnesota’s highest fishing honor when he was chosen to guide the governor on opening day.
Chip continues as the driving force behind Fishing the WildSide, an outdoor sports marketing and communications company. He serves as Interim Director of the Minnesota Fishing Hall of Fame, emcee and TV host of the Cabela’s National Walleye Tour, and fishes extensively, competing in regional tournaments and continually refining tackle and techniques to advance the sport of fishing.
